Beyonce has paid tribute after Instagram star Lyric ‘Yhung’ Chanel died, at the age of just 13.
The social media personality is believed to have died on Friday after a lengthy battle with brain cancer and anaplastic ependymoma.
And when news of her tragic death was shared online, 39-year-old Beyonce made an incredible gesture in her honour.
Beyonce posted a video to her YouTube account that featured a collection of the social media figure’s photos and videos.
The singer also recorded a medley of Chanel’s favourite songs, including Halo, Brown Skin Girl and Love On Top.
She changed the lyrics of Love On Top as a tribute to the late social media personality, switching out the word ‘baby’ for “Lyric”. At the end of the video, Beyonce shared a message to Chanel that said “I love you with all of my heart”.
The pair first came into contact when Beyonce reached out to Chanel in September last year on a video of the teen singing Love On Top on her Instagram account.
In response to the video, Beyonce sent Chanel a bouquet and a kind note which said: “‘I was so moved to see how these lyrics inspired you, not nearly as much as you inspired me. I can’t wait to meet you one day…you are a survivor.”
Chanel amassed a huge online following last year as she was undergoing treatment. She had brain surgery last November to remove a tumour, although multiple new growths rapidly grew after the first one was taken out.
Also paying tribute to Chanel, DJ Mr Rogers said: “We learned so much about strength and resilience from this little girl.
“She truly fulfilled her purpose and I thank you for sharing her with us all.”
Traebn also said: “I’m crushed. I’m glad I got to hold and kiss you last night. Imma get out this dark place I’m in today and smile at some point for you.”
