In an effort to encourage boda boda riders to switch to electric-powered motorcycles, the ride-hailing platform Bolt is offering a subsidy of Ksh. 50,000, equivalent to 20 per cent of the acquisition cost.
Under the deal, boda boda riders will only need to pay between Ksh. 10,000 and Ksh. 15,000 to acquire the e-motorcycles, which are valued at over Ksh. 200,000. The remaining cost will be covered by M-Kopa.
This initiative aims to target 1,000 boda boda riders across the country by the end of the year, with plans to scale up to 5,000 riders within the next three years.
