Following his accurate prediction of 17 matches, 22-year-old Eli Kipruto Rotich is the lucky recipient of the Sh200 million Betika Mega Jackpot.
The winner was announced by Betika on Friday and he is anticipated to receive Sh160 million as the jackpot amount is subject to a 20% withholding tax.
On Tuesday, when the announcement that the jackpot had been won was made, other winners who predicted 12 to 16 matches correctly received bonuses. A free bet was awarded to those who correctly predicted 11 matches, and Sh2,814 was awarded to those who correctly predicted none.
This is the first time that the Betika grand jackpot has been won.
“I’ve never lost hope because I bet for entertainment. This money is going to change my life and my entire family. I think this is what they call Generational Wealth,” Rotich said.
Rotich, who is also a student at Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology, will receive financial guidance from Betika on how to manage his winnings.
“I’m very grateful to Betika for this jackpot and for offering me a financial advisor because to be honest, I haven’t figured out what to do with the money yet. It hasn’t sunk in yet that I no longer have money problems, just how to spend it,” he added.
Speaking during the handover of the cheque, Betika’s Senior Product Manager Kent Kagicha said: ‘’The odds were in your favour, and even when one game was postponed and the outcome had to be decided through a public draw, the outcome was still in your favour. We are so happy for you.”
