Defence Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale met with Qatar Ambassador to Kenya Mutair Al-Enazi on Thursday at the Ministry of Defence Headquarters in Nairobi.
The discussion focused on enhancing bilateral relations between Kenya and Qatar, particularly in the areas of security cooperation and mutual interests in the Horn of Africa.
Duale emphasized the importance of the meeting in reinforcing the ties between the two nations. “The courtesy call underscored the strengthening bilateral relations between Kenya and Qatar, focusing on security cooperation and mutual interests in the Horn of Africa,” he stated.
The talks included discussions on a pending defense cooperation agreement, which covers intelligence sharing, joint military training, and counter-terrorism efforts. Duale highlighted ongoing initiatives, such as the training of a Kenyan officer in Doha and an invitation for Qatar to participate in Kenya’s Joint Command and Staff Course (JCSC).
Duale also acknowledged the significant contribution of over 65,000 Kenyan workers in Qatar, noting their role in Qatar’s economic development and the employment opportunities they enjoy. The meeting was attended by Chief of Policy and Plans at the Defence headquarters Richard Mwanzia and the director of the Middle East Directorate at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Abdishakur Sheikh Hussein.
