The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has summoned former Cabinet Secretary for Interior and Coordination of National Government Dr. Fred Matiangi over allegations of publishing false information.
According to a notice issued by Senior Superintendent of Police Michael K. Sang, Matiangi is accused of spreading false information about an alleged invasion and raid of his residence by a “battalion” and/or “garrison” of police officers on February 8-9, 2023.
Sang said he has reasons to believe that Matiangi is connected to the offence or has information that can assist him in his investigations.
“I have reasons to believe that you, Dr. Fred Matiangi, the former Cabinet Secretary, Ministry of Interior and National Co-ordination, is connected to the offence or has information which can assist me in my investigations,” Sang wrote.
He invoked section 52 (1) of the National Police Service Act No 11A of 2011 to compel Matiangi to appear before him at the DCI headquarters along Kiambu Road on March 7, 2023 at 09.30 AM without fail.
He warned that failure to comply is a crime punishable by law.
“Failure to comply with the requisition constitutes an offence liable to prosecution,” Sang added.
Matiang’i returned to the country on Sunday, with reports that he was scheduled to appear before the DCI today, but his lawyer, Danstan Omari, said he had no knowledge of such summons.
