The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) is investigating the death of the 23-year-old interior designer, Geoffrey Mwathi, who allegedly fell to his death on the 10th floor of Redwood Apartments along USIU Road at the residence of popular ‘mugithi’, artist DJ Fatxo.
The first phase of the investigation has been completed and several persons of interest will be interrogated in the second phase, with appropriate recommendations being made to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions.
The first phase of the probe saw the first cluster of witnesses in the case interviewed, forensic examination of the scene conducted, followed by the retrieval of CCTV footage that captured the deceased’s last moments.
“Several other DCI Forensic experts assisting the Homicide investigators have also collected crucial evidence and the same are being analyzed,” the statement reads in part.
Mwathi was captured on CCTV footage falling from the 10th-floor apartment window of a house belonging to Lawrence Njuguna, popularly known as DJ Fatxo with whom he was said to have been partying on the night of his death.
The police report stated that Mwathi had been in DJ Fatxo’s house after spending the night partying with the popular Mugithi singer alongside his cousin and driver.
The DJ was seen on CCTV leaving his apartment with three women around 4 am, while Mwathi was left in the house with two other men.
The suicide theory advanced by the DJ and the two men who were in the apartment at the time of the incident was rejected by Mwathi’s family, who said that he had never considered taking his own life.
Mwathi’s mother, who currently resides in Qatar, released WhatsApp messages in which she claimed that an ecstatic Mwathi begged her for Sh200 since he didn’t have enough money to cover the meeting’s travel costs.
