The Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) has announced a significant reduction in fuel prices in its latest review, with decreases of up to Sh18 per litre.
According to EPRA, the price of Super petrol has dropped by Sh5.31 per litre, diesel by Sh10 per litre, and kerosene by Sh18.68 per litre.
In Nairobi, the new prices will see super petrol retailing at Sh193.84, diesel at Sh180.38, and kerosene at Sh170.06 per litre. Mombasa residents will experience prices of Sh190.66 for super petrol, Sh177.21 for diesel, and Sh166.99 for kerosene.
In Nakuru, fuel prices are set to be Sh192.90 for super petrol, Sh179.82 for diesel, and Sh169.56 for kerosene.
These revised prices, inclusive of 16% Value Added Tax (VAT), will take effect from midnight on April 14 to midnight on May 14, 2024.
EPRA notes that these adjustments are in accordance with the Finance Act 2023, the Tax Laws (Amendment) Act 2020, and the revised rates for excise duty adjusted for inflation as per Legal Notice No. 194 of 2020.
The last review of fuel prices by EPRA was conducted in mid-March, where petrol prices were reduced by Sh7.21 per litre, diesel by Sh5.09 per litre, and kerosene by Sh4.49 per litre.
Earlier, President William Ruto had hinted at an anticipated decrease in fuel prices by Sh10 during a Sunday service at ACK St. Peter’s Cathedral in Nyeri, stating that such a reduction would be a significant milestone for the country’s progress.
