Comedian Eric Omondi has once again been arrested, this time while participating in a protest outside Parliament Buildings in Nairobi.
In videos circulating online, Omondi, dressed in red along with several others, was seen marching on a horse while chanting “Power to the people.”
Police officers soon intervened, pulling Omondi from the horse and detaining him.
Earlier on social media platform X, Omondi had criticized Members of Parliament who voted in favor of the controversial Finance Bill, 2024, stating they had disregarded the desires of the Kenyan populace.
“When the representatives of the people are unable to represent the people, the people shall represent themselves! It will not be a walk in the Park. If we lose they, must lose,” he posted.
This isn’t the first time Omondi has been apprehended for his activism. Just recently, on June 4, he was arrested outside Parliament Buildings for leading a demonstration involving mama mbogas (market women).
The group was protesting against the Finance Bill, 2024, along Parliament Road when police dispersed them and subsequently took Omondi into custody.
He was later booked at the Parliament police station.
Known primarily for his comedy, Eric Omondi has increasingly shifted his focus to activism in recent times, using his platform to advocate for social and political change.
