A wave of shock and sorrow swept through the Site and Service estate on the outskirts of Kericho town following the tragic death of a first-year university student in what appears to be a case of suicide.
Faith Charity Makhulu, aged 19 and nine months pregnant, was found dead after hanging herself with a manila rope from the rooftop corridor of her family’s residence.
Authorities, as per a police report, indicated that the reasons behind Makhulu’s decision to take her own life remain unclear, as no suicide note was discovered. However, speaking on the condition of anonymity, a provincial administration officer suggested that Makhulu may have been driven to suicide after allegedly being dumped by her boyfriend.
The heartbreaking discovery was made by Makhulu’s mother, who found her daughter’s lifeless body dangling from the rooftop. It is believed that the tragic incident occurred during the night when the household was asleep, leaving Makhulu undiscovered until morning.
Upon the mother’s distressing revelation, neighbors and members of the public rushed to the scene in a bid to rescue Makhulu, but unfortunately, their efforts were in vain as she had already passed away.
Kericho Police Station was promptly notified of the incident, prompting officers to respond swiftly. Makhulu’s body was then removed from the scene and transported to Kericho Referral Hospital mortuary, where it awaits further examination.
An investigation into the circumstances surrounding Makhulu’s untimely death has been initiated, with authorities endeavoring to unravel the motive behind this tragic event.
