Former Nandi Hills MP Alfred Keter was summoned back to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) on Monday following his dramatic arrest and subsequent release on Sunday.
The DCI is investigating claims that Keter was involved in a conspiracy to traffic firearms and incite violence.
Keter, accompanied by his lawyers, returned to the DCI on July 1. He was later released in the company of Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna, Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka, and Embakasi East MP Babu Owino. Keter denies the allegations, describing them as politically motivated.
The DCI issued a statement confirming that Keter was arrested by National Police Service (NPS) officers for conspiracy to traffic firearms and incitement to violence. He was booked at Kamukunji Police Station and released pending forensic analysis of the exhibits. The case file will be forwarded to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) for further direction. The DCI urged the public to refrain from acts of violence, hate speech, and malice to maintain peace and security in the country.
Keter’s wife, Joanne Keter, expressed her distress, stating that their children are traumatized after witnessing the armed state agents abduct their father. Joanne lamented the emotional impact on their children and called for justice.
After his release on Sunday evening, Keter addressed the media with Law Society of Kenya President Faith Odhiambo, Babu Owino, and former Nairobi governor Mike Sonko. Keter criticized the government officials behind his arrest, declaring he would not be intimidated.
The arrest occurred as Keter and his family were leaving a church event in Kileleshwa, Nairobi. The family, including their children, witnessed the incident and were reportedly traumatized by the event.
