Silas Jakakimba, a former aide to Raila Odinga, officially announced his departure from the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party on Tuesday, opting instead to join the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party.
Cleophas Malala, the Secretary General of UDA, warmly received Jakakimba into the party fold.
After dedicating nearly 16 years of service alongside Odinga, Jakakimba pledged his allegiance to President William Ruto.
Prior to his defection, Jakakimba had resigned from his role as the legal adviser to Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga in July 2023, just nine months into the position.
Jakakimba has set his sights on the Suba North parliamentary seat in the upcoming 2027 elections, aiming to challenge the incumbent MP, Millie Odhiambo, who is currently serving her second term.
