Dennis Wainaina, an Administration Police officer attached to Githunguri MP Gabriel Kago has been arrested for shooting a watchman dead at a pub in Kiambu town.
Multiple reports say the Wednesday night incident happened at Lounge 54; Wainaina reportedly fired three times at the night guard.
The Lounge’s manager said the officer had ordered the watchman to open the premises at around midnight. He said he wanted to buy beer.
“I heard him arguing with the guard outside the premises, it was late, and we had closed, the guard told him it was not possible to open, then I heard three shots,” he told Inooro TV.
The manager said he ventured out and found the night guard on the ground. He was bleeding profusely.
He then called the Kiambu Police Station OCS who sent police officers who rushed the guard to the Radiant Hospital.
Unfortunately, the guard succumbed to his injuries around 4am on Thursday.
The security guard’s distraught wife told Inooro TV that she was surprised at the tragic news as her husband and his would-be-killer were “close friends who occasionally drank together”
“That person who killed him is his friend, they drink together even, I have no idea what happened, I want the government to intervene,” she said.
Police officers had a rough time subduing the officer who fled the scene of the crime before locking himself inside his house.
He reportedly threatened to open fire on his family but later surrendered and is currently at the Kiambu Police station.
