Kisii Governor Simba Arati has taken decisive action in response to alleged misconduct by Kisii County Criminal Investigation Officer (CCIO) Catherine Njue.
Arati lodged a formal complaint with the Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI), accusing Njue of abusing her authority and conspiring to obstruct justice.
Arati’s decision was prompted by the emergence of an online audio clip purportedly featuring Njue and other officers discussing plans to plant weapons at his residence and the homes of individuals perceived to support him. The Governor believes these plans were hatched in February, following his attendance at the funeral of the late Kisii National Polytechnic Principal, Daniel Nyariki.
Expressing grave concern over the matter, Arati highlighted Njue’s alleged dissemination of a list containing 14 individuals associated with him. These individuals sought legal protection by obtaining temporary conservatory orders from the Kisii High Court.
Given the perceived threats to the safety and security of county residents, Arati deemed it imperative to escalate the issue to the DCI for appropriate action. Arati’s legal representatives, James Orengo and Otiende Amolo, underscored the challenging operating environment faced by the Governor. They suggested that certain government officials in Kisii, supported by national authorities, are utilizing security forces to impede Arati’s efforts to fulfill his duties to the electorate who elected him in August 2022.
