There was heavy traffic on Kiambu road on Tuesday morning as former Interior CS Fred Matiang’i’s arrived at the DCI headquarters.
The heavy traffic delayed Matiang’i accessing the DCI gates which forced his lawyer Danstan Omari to step out of his vehicle to engage the officers manning traffic on this route.
On Monday, Dr Matiang’i wrote to the Directorate of Criminal Investigation to reschedule his questioning time.
The former CS said he wanted to appear on Tuesday at 8am instead of 9:30am.
Detectives want to limit the number of people accompanying him inside so a list containing the names of his lawyers has been shared with them for approval.
He is accompanied by former Defence CS Eugene Wamalwa, Kisii senator Richard Onyonka and a number of lawyers.
He was allowed in at 8:47am in the company of 12 lawyers.
Matiang’i is accused of spreading false information about an alleged invasion of a raid in his Karen residence by a group of police officers between 8th and 9th of February 2023
Some of the charges that have been put against the former CS is that he’s accused of publication of false information contrary to Section 23 of the Computer Misuse and Cyber Crimes Act of 2018 among other offences.
The superintendent, Sang, says he believes that Matiang’i could either be connected to the offence or could give information that could assist in investigation.
Matiang’i jetted back into the country this past Saturday and his lawyers had issued a statement saying that they were not aware of investigations against him.
