A Mombasa court has sentenced a house help who sexually assaulted her employer’s four-year-old son to life imprisonment.
21-year-old Edda Wakesho pleaded guilty to defiling the minor, filming the incident, and sharing the explicit videos on the internet. The court heard that the accused was part of a child pornography cartel involving rogue housemaids to film themselves sexually abusing their employer’s children.
Wakesho told Shanzu Senior Resident Magistrate Florence Macharia that she was introduced to the trade through a Facebook friend, who showed her a page on the social media site where people share pornographic videos in exchange for money.
“I was then instructed to send nude photos and videos. They also instructed me to masturbate on camera and share the videos. I did exactly that with the hope that I would be paid at the end of the month,” she confessed.
The accused further alleged that she received death threats if she failed to cooperate with those behind the cartel.
The boy’s mother told the court that she received videos of her son from a strange number threatening to share them on social media if the family failed to send money. This was after Wakesho quit her job.
Wakesho pleaded guilty to assaulting the boy between June 2020 and October 2021 and was sentenced to life in prison plus 10 years for child pornography. The sentences run concurrently.
“The four-year-old child had no idea of what was happening to him. His innocence was taken away by the accused. She is therefore sentenced to serve life imprisonment,” the magistrate ruled on Wednesday.
