Digital strategist Pauline Njoroge has broken her silence after she was arrested by detectives in Malindi and later charged over hate speech and cybercrime offences.
In a statement, the blogger insisted that she will not be silenced.
Njoroge noted that she does not know what she did to be detained for a whole weekend, alongside her friends.
“I still do not know what crime I had committed to warrant my detention. As we speak, my gadgets are with the Cyber Crime unit on Kiambu Road, because the powers that be are desperately still trying to get something to pin on me after their previous attempt failed terribly and exposed their evil scheme.
She insisted that she will not sit and watch Kenya go back to the dark days of dictatorship.
Njoroge who has been critical of President William Ruto’s administration said the detention has only made her resolve to fight for the freedom of Kenyans stronger.
She said it is the responsibility of Kenyans to guard their freedom.
“I shall not be silenced! By detaining us, you only strengthened our resolve. We will not sit and watch as some fellows try to turn the clock back, recreating our country’s dark past. Patriots of that generation sacrificed sweat and blood to liberate our country from dictatorship, so that we may have the democratic space we currently enjoy,” she said.
“Because of our present circumstances, the responsibility to guard against jealousy and our hard-earned freedom has fallen upon our generation. We must bear that responsibility bravely.”
Njoroge, her friend Jane Nduta and taxi driver Emanze Jilani were arrested on Saturday last week by Watamu police after the vehicle they were travelling in was intercepted along the Watamu-Jakaranda road.
However, on Monday evening they were freed by a Malindi Magistrate Court.
