Itel has announced the availability of its latest A-series smartphone – the A70 4G, which replaces the A60 launched earlier this year. The A70 brings neat upgrades and design changes that make it better than the A60.
Itel has kept the same screen size and resolution as the A60 – you get a 6.6-inch 720p screen with the standard 60Hz refresh rate.
The Itel A70 comes in four nice colours, including stylish black, brilliant gold, field green and azure blue. The black version has a sort of shimmer to it and all units have the Awesome logo on the bottom back.
This time, itel has changed the ports, as the A70 has a Type-C charging port instead of the microUSB charging port. It also has a side-mounted fingerprint reader for biometrics, which the A60 didn’t have.
The processor, RAM and storage configurations have also been upgraded. The itel A70 gets a relatively faster Unisco T603 chipset coupled with either 3GB or 4GB of onboard RAM, expandable up to 8GB with additional virtual RAM thanks to itel0S 13. It has either 128GB or 256GB of onboard storage with the option to expand via an external MicroSD card.
Instead of Android 12(Go Edition), the itel A70 comes with the full Android 13 operating system.
The cameras have also been upgraded. The itel A70 comes with two 13MP main cameras and an 8MP selfie camera. This is a better setup than the A60’s 8MP dual main camera and 5MP selfie camera. Both cameras can record 1080p video.
Itel keeps the same battery capacity as its predecessor at 5000mAh and adds support for Type-C charging, capped at 10W.
The box contains the phone, earphones, SIM ejector tool, charger and cable, plus a black matte back cover.
The itel A70 is available for Sh13,000 at itel retail stores nationwide, partner stores and online on Jumia and Kilimall.
itel has partnered with Safaricom and Easybuy to offer device financing plans such as the former’s Lipa Mdogo Mdogo plan.
These plans are available at Safaricom’s official stores and selected partner retail outlets.Itel also announced a rebrand to celebrate its 16th anniversary with a focus on youth, unveiling a new logo with a new tagline – Enjoy Better Life. They also unified their ecosystem from children’s electronics to personal care and power accessories under KeeKid, Sundaze and Power Master.
The new logo will be used on the company’s consumer technology products.
Itel plans to launch an experience store for its technology products as it expands its market to three more countries – it currently operates in 17 countries.
