Mumias East Member of Parliament Peter Salasya reportedly threatened to kill the magistrate who on Monday ordered him to pay a businessman Sh500,000 that he owed.
Magistrate Gladys Kiama of the Kakamega Small Claims Court directed Salasya to pay Robert Lutta a Sh500,000 debt with interest and cost of the case after the businessman filed a case challenging the legislator to pay the money he lent him on December 13, 2022, with the agreement that he would repay after two months.
Following the ruling, the first-time parliamentarian is said to have confronted Magistrate Kiama outside the courtroom and threatened to kill her.

“At around 1230 hours while at Kakamega Law Courts, having delivered a judgement in a small claim matter vide case no. SSC E541/2023 against Hon. Peter Salasya, MP for Mumias East Constituency where he had been sued for failing to refund the money loaned to him by the claimant. He confronted her outside the courtroom and threatened to kill her and then took off,” reads a report filed at the Kakamega Police Station.
Investigations are underway to arrest the MP to face appropriate charges, police said.
During Monday’s hearing, Salasya denied borrowing money from the businessman and instead claimed he was the one who loaned Lutta Ksh.1 million through his political advisor Bernard Kemba.
But Magistrate Kiama dismissed Salasya’s argument due to lack of evidence.
“I also note that there was nothing to support the allegations that the claimant borrowed money from the respondent, there was no evidence to support his claim,” she said.
