Tragic news emerged today as Chief of Defence Forces, Francis Ogolla, was reported dead following a helicopter crash in Kaben, Marakwet East. The incident occurred on Thursday, claiming the lives of several officials who were aboard the aircraft.
Ogolla, who assumed the position of CDF on April 28, 2023, was among the 12 individuals on board the helicopter, including officers of the rank of General. Eyewitnesses recounted the horrifying scene as the chopper crashed and subsequently burst into flames upon impact.
Amidst the devastation, there was one survivor, believed to be a photographer, while the fate of the other passengers remains grim. The area was swiftly cordoned off following the accident, with authorities scrambling to secure the scene.
Reports indicate that the officers were conducting a survey of the area in preparation for the deployment of additional troops to combat cattle rustlers. Initially, police stated that five officers had perished in the crash, with three survivors.
Among the passengers were also other bureaucratic officers from the Ministry of Defence, further compounding the tragedy that has shaken the nation.
