The National Assembly’s committee on Tourism and Wildlife has disclosed that the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) expended approximately KSh38 million in cleaning cabros and polishing windows as part of the preparations for the African Climate Change Conference held at the KICC in September 2023.
Out of this amount, KSh28,690,968 was allocated for cleaning the cabros between the VIP entrance gate and the main entrance at KICC, while an estimated KSh10 million was dedicated to window cleaning.
Additionally, around KSh1.98 billion was utilized for renovating the first four floors and the Amphitheatre at KICC before the conference.
Notably, KSh5.7 million was specifically earmarked for sprucing up the renowned Jomo Kenyatta sculpture at KICC.
Further breakdowns reveal that KSh14.5 million was spent on cleaning the auditorium’s carpet and seats, while the maintenance of toilets incurred a cost of KSh2 million. A significant amount of KSh68.9 million was invested in repairing the Amphitheatre, which included installing a new carpet, renovating media control, and interpreter booths.
Moreover, KSh9 million was allocated for enhancing the president’s waiting room, presidential kitchen, and washrooms. An additional KSh11 million was dedicated to renovating the Deputy President’s holding area and tiling the VIP waiting room.
