Kiambu County Assembly Deputy Speaker John Njue Njiru is facing serious legal trouble as he is set to be arraigned before the Thika Anti-Corruption Court on charges of alleged bribery.
According to the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC), Njue stands accused of soliciting a bribe amounting to Ksh.130,000. The purported aim of this bribe was to facilitate the development of a plot valued at Ksh.15 million within Thika Town for the complainant in the case.
The charges against Njue specifically relate to the offense of receiving a bribe, which is in contravention of the law. The deputy speaker, who also serves as the Member of the County Assembly (MCA) for Hospital Ward, was apprehended by EACC detectives on June 13, 2023. Since then, he has been out on bail, having deposited Ksh.100,000 with the police.
This development underscores the ongoing efforts to combat corruption within government institutions, highlighting the importance of upholding integrity and accountability among public officials. Njue’s case serves as a reminder of the consequences that individuals face when engaging in corrupt practices, particularly within the realm of governance and public service.
