Police are probing an incident where a 23-year-old man was allegedly killed by two sisters in a suspected love triangle in Kirinyaga County.
The incident which happened in Mugamba village in Mwea East, saw the man die following a scuffle in a local bar.
Area police commander Daniel Kitavi said the deceased, Boniface Wambugu, was attacked by one Louise Wangerwe who was in the company of two others.
“The late Wambugu was hit with a beer bottle. He sustained serious neck injuries and died on the spot,” Kitavi said.
Police added that they managed to arrest one of the suspects. “One of them was subjected to mob justice while the third suspect fled the scene.”
“We urge members of the public to avoid taking the law in their own hands. Were it not for police to intervene, the suspect who was beaten up by a mob would have died,” Kitavi added.
Witnesses told Citizen Digital that they suspect it was a case of a suspected love triangle. “The two sisters worked at the bar. One of them pounced on the victim after an argument,” Nimrod Muchiri, a local, said.
The body of the deceased is lying at Kibugi Mortuary in Kutus. Meanwhile the suspect is being held at Itangi Police Station.
“We want justice. Whether it was a love affair gone wrong or not, all we want is justice for our son,” Aloise Murage, a resident, added.
