Police in Kisumu are holding a 31-year-old man for dangerous driving after he rammed a vehicle into an eatery in the Kondele area, injuring five people.
The suspect is said to have sneaked away with his dad’s Toyota Prado from the Kibos direction at 9 pm.
Nyanza Regional traffic boss Joseph Nganga says the suspect upon reaching the Kondele roundabout first knocked a motorcyclist from behind, injuring him and two other pillion passengers.
Nganga says the suspect did not stop and went ahead to ram into the food joint where the five who were having supper missed death by a whisker.
He says at that point, angry boda boda operators gave chase as he drove towards Kisumu central police station where he sought refuge but on his way again knocked two motor vehicles.
Nganga says the injured totalling to seven were rushed to the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital where they received treatment for bruises and cuts and were later discharged.
He says the driver is locked up and will be charged for relevant traffic offences.
The driver’s parents told the police that their son is mentally challenged.
