Police in Siaya County are investigating a disturbing incident at St. Andrew’s Bondo Catholic Church, where an unidentified man allegedly defecated on a statue of Jesus.
Siaya County police commander Cleti Kimaiyo confirmed the incident, stating that it was reported by the parish priest, Rev. Father Edwin Obudho.
According to Kimaiyo, reports suggest that the statue, which had been a fixture at the church altar, was also reported missing. Upon reviewing CCTV footage, it was revealed that a man dressed in a black and white striped shirt and black trousers entered the church hall while congregants were in prayer.
The suspect then proceeded to the upper gallery, where he had hidden the statue. He later descended to the altar, defecated on the statue, and exited the church, hiding the defaced statue under the pews.
Kimaiyo emphasized that efforts to trace the suspect are ongoing as the investigation unfolds. The incident has shocked the local community, and authorities are working diligently to apprehend the perpetrator and ensure the safety and sanctity of the church.
