Exiled Kenyan lawyer Miguna Miguna will arrive at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) at 6am Thursday, October 20.
“PATRIOTS: I’ll be arriving on the KQ Flight at 6AM. Terminal 1. Cheers,” the Canada-based Kenyan tweeted on Tuesday, October 18.
For Miguna to arrive in Nairobi at 6 am on 20th October, it means that he is in the process of departing or has already left Ontario, Canada, today (October 18).
This is because there are no direct flights from Canada to Kenya. Miguna either has to go to New York first before taking a Kenya Airways (KQ) direct flight to Nairobi, which will be 15 hours.
Another option for Miguna is to connect to Europe first then Nairobi. He has previously (in 2020) travelled from Canada to Berlin, Germany, but was blocked from leaving Berlin for Nairobi because of the red alerts imposed against him. This journey to Europe first then Kenya takes approximately 23 hours, including waiting time.
The solicitor and barrister who is a fiery critic of the former administration of President Uhuru Kenya and his ‘handshake partner’ Raila Odinga returns to his motherland after nearly five years of forced exile.
On September 20 2022, Miguna announced that he had received a new Passport.
The only hurdle in his quest to return home was the red alerts issued against him by the former administration. However, President William Ruto’s government on October 12 lifted the red alerts.
Miguna was abducted from his house in Runda, Nairobi, and detained at the Githunguri Police Station in Kiambu County on February 2, 2018. It was soon after he had ‘sworn in’ Raila as the ‘People’s President’ at Uhuru Park, Nairobi.
Four days later, he was hounded out of the country, with chaotic scenes being witnessed at the Jomo Kenyatta International airport.
