The Ministry of Education has announced changes to the dates for the half-term break for the second term of the academic year. Initially scheduled from June 20 to 23, the half-term break will now take place from June 26 to June 28.
In a circular dated May 24 addressed to all County Directors of Education, the ministry cited disruptions to the opening dates as the reason for revising the half-term break dates. The circular emphasized the need for flexibility in response to changing circumstances.
All learners in boarding schools are expected to report back on June 30, 2024, following the half-term break.
The ministry acknowledged that these changes may necessitate adjustments to planned activities and schedules within schools.
The alteration in the academic calendar comes in the wake of previous delays in school reopening due to floods. Initially slated for April 29, schools eventually reopened on May 13, resulting in a two-week delay.
Regarding the potential extension of the second term to compensate for lost time, Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu stated on May 9 that the duration of the second term would be prolonged, although the specific period of extension was not specified.
