The lead singer of the popular reggae band Morgan Heritage, Peter Anthony Morgan has died aged 46.
His family announced his death on Sunday.
In a statement posted Sunday on social media, the family asked for privacy and thanked people in advance for their love and support. The announcement, however, did not reveal the cause of his death.
Jamaican Prime Minister Andrew Holness also took to X to eulogise Morgan, terming his death a “colossal loss” for Jamaica and reggae music.
“I send my deep condolences to the Morgan family as they grieve this tremendous loss. Our country is grateful for his life and contribution and the sharing of his exceptional musical talent which touched each of us. I pray for the family’s peace and comfort during this unimaginably difficult time,” he said.
Morgan, known as “Peetah,” was the son of renowned Jamaican reggae singer Denroy Morgan.
He and his siblings formed Morgan Heritage in 1994, and the band won a Grammy for Best Reggae Album in 2016 for “Strictly Roots.”
The other siblings who helped found the band were Una Morgan, Nakhamyah “Lukes” Morgan and Memmalatel “Mr. Mojo” Morgan.
