Women Members of Parliament are urging President William Ruto to dismiss Health Cabinet Secretary Susan Nakhumicha in light of the ongoing challenges within the health sector.
On Tuesday, a group of over 10 female leaders expressed their frustration over the suspension of the Linda Mama program by the Ministry of Health for the past month. They accused CS Nakhumicha of neglecting pregnant mothers who are suffering due to the prolonged doctor’s strike.
Led by Githunguri MP Gathoni Wamuchomba, Suba North MP Millie Odhiambo, and Kilifi Woman Rep Gertrude Mbeyu, they called for Nakhumicha’s immediate removal, citing her failure to address the issues within her docket.
Mbeyu stressed the plight of mothers who heavily rely on the Linda Mama program, particularly those facing financial difficulties. She emphasized that any deaths among children or mothers during the suspension of the Linda Mama card should be squarely attributed to the CS.
Wamuchomba raised another concern, noting that NHIF cards are also non-functional in anticipation of the upcoming rollout of the Social Health Insurance Fund (SHIF) in July. She argued that this adds to the challenges faced by Kenyans amidst the ongoing 33-day doctor’s strike.
