Jimmy Donaldson, known as MrBeast, has achieved a new milestone by becoming the most subscribed YouTuber, overtaking the Indian music company T-Series.
The American YouTuber announced this achievement on Sunday through a post on X (formerly Twitter), where he declared he had “avenged” Swedish YouTuber PewDiePie.
He shared a picture displaying the latest subscription figures, with his channel boasting 267 million subscribers compared to T-Series’s 266 million followers.
In his post, MrBeast expressed his excitement, stating, “After 6 years we have finally avenged Pewdiepie.” This reference recalls the past rivalry between PewDiePie, whose real name is Felix Kjellberg, and T-Series. Last year, MrBeast voiced his support for PewDiePie, affirming, “I’m doing this for Pewdiepie.”
In a playful challenge last month, MrBeast invited the Chief Executive Officer of T-Series to a boxing match as he approached T-Series’s subscriber count. Posting the remaining subscriber count on X, the 26-year-old wrote, “I challenge the CEO of T-Series to a boxing match.” It’s notable that Bhushan Kumar is the Chairman and Managing Director of T-Series, though the company’s CEO is not listed on its official website.
PewDiePie, once the highest-earning YouTuber globally, gained fame for his video game commentaries and had previously been the most subscribed YouTuber, surpassing T-Series at one point. However, in 2017, Disney severed ties with him after discovering Nazi references in some of his videos. By 2020, PewDiePie announced a hiatus from posting content on YouTube, having amassed 102 million subscribers at that time.
