Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi has announced the merger of his Amani National Congress (ANC) with President William Ruto’s United Democratic Alliance (UDA).
This announcement comes amid internal tensions within the UDA following a fallout between President Ruto and his Deputy, Rigathi Gachagua.
Speaking from his home in Kakamega County on Sunday, Mudavadi explained that the merger was driven by a vision for political sustainability and growth. Addressing ANC supporters who were skeptical of the merger, he reminded them that similar doubts were expressed when he joined the Kenya Kwanza coalition in 2022.
“There are talks about a merger, which is allowed under the Political Parties Act,” Mudavadi stated, highlighting that the law enables parties to unite for mutual benefit. He compared the merger to the formation of political coalitions such as Azimio and Kenya Kwanza, which are prevalent in Kenyan politics.
Mudavadi, who also serves as the Cabinet Secretary for Foreign and Diaspora Affairs, reassured his supporters that the merger is a strategic decision aimed at future planning.
“So, when I tell you ANC is in talks for a merger, don’t think it’s something small; we are planning for the future,” he asserted.
