Interior Cabinet Secretary nominee Kithure Kindiki has reported that his wealth increased from Sh544 million to Sh694 million between October 2022 and August 2024.
During vetting by the National Assembly’s Committee, chaired by Speaker Moses Wetang’ula, Kindiki denied any improper gains or government tenders, emphasizing that no funds came from public sources.
“I have not benefited from any improper business, I have not done any business with the government, and I have not applied for any tender by myself, by proxy, or by a relative,” he stated.
The former Tharaka-Nithi Senator attributed the Sh150 million growth in net worth to pending legal fees and small business profits.
“I don’t practice law, but my law firm is active and managed by others. Much of the revenue has come from my law firm, which remains operational. All my salaries and allowances have been spent on paying bills,” he explained.
“The legal fees, some of which were pending at the time of my appointment, have since been paid. I remember two months after my appointment, one of the clients paid a significant amount of pending legal fees. Additionally, I run small businesses,” he told the committee.
President William Ruto nominated Kindiki back to the Interior Ministry after dismissing his entire cabinet.
