Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro has called on Kenyan parents to exercise patience regarding the reopening of schools, urging them to wait until the government deems it safe for learners.
Speaking at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Parish church in Kweluu, Mwingi West constituency, where he led a fundraiser, the MP emphasized that the safety of learners was paramount, especially amidst the ongoing floods. He urged against unnecessary urgency to reopen schools.
The legislator also pledged to ensure that the government is adequately resourced to address the havoc caused by floods. As the Chair of the Budget Committee in the National Assembly, Nyoro stated his commitment to overseeing the passing of all budgetary allocations to assist flood victims.
He called on fellow leaders to refrain from engaging in endless politics and instead focus on development once the electioneering period is over. Nyoro also announced plans for the government to allocate funds for hiring permanent junior secondary school teachers, who had previously been working on internships, as well as recruiting an additional 20,000 teachers to enhance education.
Nyoro further promised to complete stalled projects in Kitui that had been abandoned midway.
Mwingi West MP Charles Nguna echoed Nyoro’s sentiments, stressing the importance of completing the Kitui-Kibwezi road, which has been stalled for years. He also advocated for compensation for the victims of the recent Mandera terror attack, many of whom hailed from Kitui County.
