Nyamira County’s vocational training centers are poised for a significant transformation as they transition into fully equipped National Youth Service (NYS) training centers under the auspices of the national government, announced Public Service CS Moses Kuria.
Speaking in Nyamira, CS Kuria unveiled plans for the integration of Vocational Training Centers (VTCs) with the National Youth Service, initiating a collaborative effort in training and resource provision nationwide through the forthcoming NYS-VTC Mashinani program.
The CS’s declaration came during his visit to various vocational training centers in the region, including Kiobwoge in Kitutu Masaba, West Mugirango Technical Training Institute, Nyaigesa, Misambi in North Mugirango, and Mwongori in Borabu constituency.
Accompanied by local leaders including West Mugirango MP Stephen Mogaka, Governor Amos Nyaribo, and County Commissioner Erastus Mbui, Kuria inspected the progress of ongoing projects such as the affordable housing initiative and the proposed industrial park at Sironga in West Mugirango constituency.
Emphasizing the government’s commitment, Kuria outlined the objective of fostering collaboration between county and national authorities through NYS partnerships, aimed at bolstering the growth of vocational education institutions.
“We are steadfast in our pledge as the national government to ensure our youth receive training in technical skills vital for the advancement of our nation and personal growth,” affirmed Kuria.
Additionally, the CS announced plans to establish digital hubs at these centers, facilitating online remote job opportunities for youths, thereby enhancing their prospects for part-time or full employment.
Echoing Kuria’s sentiments, West Mugirango MP Mogaka urged the national government to intervene in revitalizing VTCs within the county, enabling youth to acquire skills crucial for local and national development.
“It is disheartening to witness the underutilization of vocational training centers despite substantial investments. We implore the national government to assist us in rejuvenating these institutions so that our youth can access technical skills essential for securing employment locally and internationally,” stated Mogaka.
Governor Nyaribo reiterated his administration’s dedication to ensuring universal access to technical training for all youth and appealed to the national government for support in establishing and equipping additional vocational colleges.
“Our vibrant youth population requires technical expertise to foster self-reliance and employment opportunities. As leaders, we call upon the national government to aid us in the establishment and enhancement of these colleges for the benefit of our youth,” emphasized the county governor.
