Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have intensified their probe seeking to unravel the motive behind the murder of former National Treasury official Tom Osinde, whose body was found dumped in River Kuja in Kamagambo, at the border of Migori and Kisii counties.
Investigators suspect that the late Osinde may have succumbed after he was stabbed with a knife and hit with a blunt object on the head on June 18, 2023 – the same day he was reported missing.
His body was discovered on June 22, four days after he was reported missing, and was first taken to a private morgue in Migori which could not admit it on grounds that it was unclaimed, hence it was moved to Migori Level Four Hospital.
The body has been lying at the public facility until early Thursday morning when it was positively identified by the deceased’s son who was accompanied by DCI detectives.

It was then moved from Migori to the Kisii Level Five Hospital mortuary where relatives and friends gathered in mourning.
His family has requested for more time to come to terms with their loss before they can issue a comprehensive statement on the burial arrangements.
Events that culminated to this day include a report by the main suspect in the murder probe, Julius Mogoi, who said he dumped the body in the river. Mogoi led the DCI officers to the crime scene on Tuesday this week.
As the family awaits to have an autopsy carried out on the body of their kin to ascertain the cause death, DCI forensic experts and crime scene analysts returned to the late Osinde’s residence at Ngata in Nakuru County to conduct further investigations into what has now turned from a missing persons probe to a murder.
Sources privy to the investigations revealed that the late Osinde may have been killed on June 18, 2023, the day he was reported missing.
It is said that Osinde may have succumbed after he was stabbed using a knife and hit with a blunt object on the head at his Ngata home.
The deceased’s car had some blood stains when it was recovered in Trans Mara, with the police now investigating how he was moved from his house to his car and driven to Kisii County.
Police also said there are some inconsistencies in the time stamp from the two suspects presently in custody, Julius Mogoi and Mugo Gathi, and that they suspect he could have been drugged before they left the homestead.
The police are also investigating claims that there were other people believed to be Tanzanian nationals in the deceased’s house on the day of the incident.
The officers are further seeking answers on the mysterious tampering of the electricity connection in the deceased’s house.
As the murder probe intensifies, detectives are seeking answers on who killed Tom Osinde, what their motive was, and how they managed to execute the murder and
dump his body.
In the meantime, the main suspects Mogoi and Mugo are in police custody and will be detained for 21 days after the police asked the court for more time to conclude their investigation.
