A daring police imposter was on Wednesday busted during a live television interview as she talked about the role of police during an electioneering period.
The National Police Service in a statement identified the imposter as Monica Wamaitha Gitau.
She was dressed in a full Persian blue police uniform when she was arrested and whisked for questioning.
“Doubting the credibility of the interviewee, police officers rushed to the TV station from where they arrested Monica Wamaitha Gitau,” NPS said in a statement.
The imposter is said to be an aspirant for the Nairobi Women MP seat.
“She is currently assisting with investigations for the offense of impersonating a police officer,” police spokesperson Bruno Shioso said.
NPS has urged media houses to always consult with the headquarters, “to avoid similar incidences in the future.”
Alternatively, journalists are advised to consult with respective regional or county commanders over all requests for interviews with police officers.
