Controversial preacher Paul Mackenzi and 94 others faced a setback in their manslaughter case as they were denied bond by a Mombasa Court.
Chief Magistrate Alex Ithuku, presiding over the case, cited concerns about potential witness interference, especially since many witnesses are children and followers of Mackenzi. The gravity of the 238 charges, each potentially carrying a life sentence, weighed heavily in the decision.
The court also highlighted the lack of proof regarding the accused persons’ permanent residence, making it difficult to trace them if they fail to appear for court proceedings.
The case is set for a pretrial mention on April 25, 2024, as legal proceedings continue to unfold.
