Colonel Fabian Lengusuranga from Kenya Army is President William Ruto’s new ADC.
He takes over from Brigadier Timothy Stelu Lekolool from the Kenya Navy who, has been deployed to the Department of Defence Head Quarters.
Lengusuranga on Tuesday accompanied Ruto to Nyeri, where he is attending the funeral of Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s elder brother who died last week.
The new ADC is deputised by Lt. Col. Damaris Agnetta also from the Kenya Army.
She takes over from Racheal Nduta Kamui who has been promoted to a full Colonel and deployed to the Department of Defence headquarters.
Col. Lengusuranga was commissioned in 1999.
He is a seasoned and decorated military officer serving as a senior Special Forces branch commander.
Agnetta was commissioned in 2003 and has been serving as an Artillery officer. She’s also served in the UN Observer Mission.
According to the Defence Council, the change is effected from time to time because of the career progression of officers.
The selection of Aide-de-Camps is normally done after consultation with the National Defence Council.
It is believed that the period in which the ADC will serve will depend on several issues, including age, but most of them serve in that capacity for three years.
Brig. Lekolool was among the three ADCs former President Uhuru Kenyatta had during his 10-year rule. He was the first ADC to be picked from the Navy.
Lekolool was Uhuru’s ADC until September 13, when William Ruto ascended to power.
Other key roles an ADC performs away from the obvious perceived standing behind the President and opening doors when the Head of State travels include detail leader, assistant detail leader, tactical commander, motorcade lead, advance lead, mobile agent, static agent and protective intelligence agent.
