The Public Service Commission (PSC) has asked President William Ruto’s National Security Advisor Monica Juma to fire her long time personal assistant Edith Fortunate.
This is after a two year investigation into her academic credentials by PSC revealed that she forged her degree certificate and also lied about the school where she sat for her KCSE.
According to confidential documents in our possession, Monica Juma asked PSC in December 2022 to investigate and verify the credibility of Fortunate’s academic papers.
Fortunate had presented to PSC a certificate from Daystar University showing she graduated with a degree in Arts and Communication.
Additionally she claimed to have sat for her Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) at State House Girls High School.
“The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) has confirmed that Fortunate A Edith did not register nor sit for the 2002 KCSE examinations at State House Girls High School. Additionally, the centre code 403708 did not exist during the 2002 KCSE examinations,” PSC chair Anthony Muchiri wrote to Monic Juma on June 26, 2024.
“Daystar University has also confirmed that the year 2007 degree certificate presented by Edith Fortunate Abongo for a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Communications is fake as it had a different serial number, different signatures and a different font theme on the name from the graduates that year,” said the PSC chair.
Fortunate has been a long time personal assistant to Monica Juma since December 24, 2018 when she was the cabinet secretary for Foreign Affairs.
The former minister during Uhuru Kenyatta presidency was one of the few senior officials retained by Ruto when he took office in 2022.
