Safaricom on Friday, November 5 issued a public notice informing customers of planned maintenance activities set to disrupt the network. The planned maintenance will take place from Saturday, November 6 from 2359 hrs to Sunday O400 hrs.
“During the maintenance, all M-Pesa services including airtime purchase shall be temporarily unavailable,” the firm confirmed, further stating that it was constantly investing and innovating M-Pesa.
The disruption will see subscribers unable to send or receive funds on Kenya’s biggest mobile money service. They will also be unable to make payments using the Lipa na M-Pesa service.
Apologizing for the inconvenience, Safaricom stated that the timing of the maintenance activity was planned to result in the least inconvenience to customers.
Safaricom’s ambitions to transition into a purpose-led tech company serving the lifestyle needs of its customers have seen the company ramp up innovation and development around M-Pesa.
The company in June this year rolled out the M-Pesa ‘Super’ app which includes various finance management tools designed to enhance the M-Pesa experience.
It also introduced mini-app functionality – allowing businesses to create apps they can use to renew licences, manage and pay their bills, interact with suppliers, and more.
“The M-Pesa business app will enable and empower them with powerful tools to manage and grow their businesses. Ultimately, our aim is that for every Sh1 a business collects on M-Pesa, they should be able to make an extra Sh5,” Safaricom CEO Peter Ndegwa.
