American singer and rapper Sean Kingston is facing at least 10 criminal charges in Florida, linked to a scam ring worth over $1 million.
The 34-year-old artist was arrested last Thursday on charges of fraud and theft and remains in custody after being denied bail.
Recent developments reveal that numerous businesses, including a jeweler, have accused Kingston of defrauding them out of hundreds of thousands of dollars. The fraudulent acquisitions reportedly include a $150,000 television sound system, $1 million worth of watches, and an $80,000 custom bed, among other items.
According to the lead prosecution attorney, Kingston has been using a well-rehearsed script to commit the frauds. “He claims to work with Justin Bieber and puts on a big show, often in a rental house he doesn’t own. He lures people in with his celebrity status, convinces them to release goods without payment, and then never pays,” the attorney stated in court papers.
Kingston and his mother are also accused of orchestrating an organized scheme to defraud high-end businesses. The allegations include grand theft involving money, jewelry, a Cadillac Escalade, and furniture. Documented evidence of these activities has been presented in court.
The arrests of Kingston and his mother came after a SWAT team raided the singer’s rented mansion in suburban Fort Lauderdale.
