During a week-long operation, Nairobi police have recovered around 1,000 mobile phones, a substantial achievement in their efforts to combat crime in the city.
Nairobi Police Chief Adamson Bungei announced the successful recovery, attributing it to a focused crackdown initiated by law enforcement. He noted that numerous individuals suspected of involvement in these criminal activities had been apprehended during the operations.
“We have made significant progress in managing the situation. The stolen phones have been retrieved, and several suspects are currently facing legal action,” Bungei stated.
Asserting their commitment to addressing phone theft and other crimes in Nairobi, Bungei assured residents of law enforcement’s dedication to ensuring their safety.
However, Bungei clarified that the reported incidents were isolated and not as widespread as they might seem.
The recovery comes amid a security advisory from the US Embassy warning its citizens about increasing crime levels in Nairobi’s residential areas.
“The incidents include crimes of opportunity such as purse and phone snatching,” the advisory stated, urging American residents to remain vigilant during their daily activities.
