Siaya Deputy Governor William Oduol will continue to serve as DG after the senate voted to keep him in office.
President William Ruto’s troops in the Senate on Monday evening saved the embattled Siaya Deputy Governor from impeachment in a dramatic vote that turned political.
The Kenya Kwanza senators capitalised on their numbers to reject the report of the ad-hoc committee that had endorsed his ouster.
Some 27 Kenya Kwanza Senators voted against each of the two charges the DG faced, beating the 16 Azimio senators who had voted to uphold the charges.
The vote implied that Oduol will continue with his duties as the Deputy Governor of Siaya.
“The net effect of this vote is that the Senate has failed to remove from office by impeachment Hon William Oduol, the Deputy Governor of Siaya and that the DG continues to hold office,” Senate Speaker Amason Kingi said.
The 11-member panel chaired by Elgeyo Marakwet Senator William Kisang had found him guilty of gross violation of the constitution; and abuse of office and gross misconduct.
