A house under construction has collapsed in Utawala, Nairobi County.
The six storey building located at Kibiku shopping centre reportedly crumbled Monday morning.
Witnesses said there were no casualties following the tragedy.
“There was no activity in the building today hence no casualty,” a witness said on Monday.
Confirming the incident, Kayole subcounty police commander Paul Wambugu said they have launched investigations into the incident.
“I confirm that the house collapsed this morning. We are investigating why,” Wambugu confirmed.
Monday’s incident comes less than 48 hours after another building in Kiambu County collapsed on Saturday, highlighting the enduring danger residents in the county continue to face in the hands of incompetent contractors.
The four storey building in Kidfamacao, Kikuyu that was under construction had two occupants who have since been rescued.
At the same time, 70 others survived the tragedy with Kikuyu police commander Ronald Kirui confirming that the neighbours have also been evacuated.
Kirui says the police have launched manhunt for the owner as well as engineers involved to face the law.
This comes barely weeks after tenants of one of the apartments in Thindigua, Kiambu County were forced to vacate with immediate effect after the building developed cracks in April.
The five-storey residential blocks named Jennid Apartments which were constructed 10 years ago in Kiambu Sub-County are reported to have developed minor and major cracks on walls, windowpanes and slabs, which were consistent on all floors forcing the county government to evacuate tenants.
