Six students have been killed in a grisly road accident near Delamere farm in Naivasha, after a Nissan matatu they were travelling in collided with a lorry along the Nairobi- Nakuru Highway.
Naivasha OCPD Samuel Waweru, confirming the accident said the Nissan was carrying students from a boarding school headed toward Nairobi, on Tuesday, April 18.
10 others who were injured have been rushed to the Naivasha county hospital for treatment.
Books, shoes, school bags and other personal materials were strewn all over the accident scene as onlookers stood in awe.
“The students were heading home for the April holidays,” said Mr Waweru.
Giving the sequence of events, the police boss said the matatu driver was trying to overtake several vehicles before the matatu collided head-on with the oncoming lorry.
“He was speeding at the time of the incident,” added Mr Waweru.
The accident caused a huge traffic jam along the busy highway, with police having a hard time controlling the building traffic.
