A woman who was on Wednesday found dead in an Airbnb in South B has been identified as Starlet Wahu, a sister to Pastor Victor Kanyari.
According to police, Scarlet Wahu Mwangi was found dead at an apartment she had checked in with a man claiming to be her boyfriend on Wednesday morning.
This is after the apartment’s owner Florence Ngina reported to Makadara Police Station that the building’s watchman had seen a man running from the house with bloodied clothes in the middle of the night.
Officers from Makadara Police Station who went to the scene found Wahu’s naked body with stab wounds on her neck and feet.
“A used condom and unused one, an empty whiskey bottle, bhang and two used HIV home test kits were also found in the house, number Y32, on the fourth floor of the Papino Apartments,” police said.
Detectives on the case later tracked the suspect to Mbagathi Hospital via his mobile phone, where he was being treated for stab wounds.
After his arrest, the suspect who was identified as John Matara, 34, claimed to be the victim’s boyfriend.
“Investigations are ongoing. We want to know the reason why he killed her after putting her through all these processes,” said Judith Nyongesa, the Makadara police commander.
Police believe that Matara killed Wahu after having sex with her on the day she died.
They may not have been in a long-term relationship and may have met for a night of fun that turned tragic.
What is not clear, and will probably take weeks to establish, is the motive for the murder.
