Popular TV journalist Stephen Letoo has stepped down as chairman of the Men’s Conference following pressure from social media critics.
The decision came after accusations that Letoo was advocating for polygamy while only marrying one wife during his public wedding at the William ole Ntimama stadium on April 20.
Despite Letoo’s public support for polygamy, his decision to marry only one wife went against the expectations of many.
Letoo, who was on holiday in Zanzibar, returned to Kenya to address the controversy surrounding his position in the Men’s Conference.
“After careful consideration, I have decided to resign as chairman of the Men’s Conference with immediate effect,” Letoo announced.
He explained that the decision came after consulting with friends and allies both in Kenya and abroad.
“I will allow members to nominate my replacement, and I will remain available for consultations and advice,” he added.
Letoo also acknowledged the challenge of filling the shoes of the late Mzee Jackson Kibor, the former chairman of the Men’s Conference, and expressed his own difficulty in managing men’s affairs.
