Three more suspects have been arrested in connection with the murder of gay activist Edwin Chiloba, who was found dead in a metallic box.
The suspects, who are believed to have aided in the disposal of Chiloba’s body, include a cousin of the main suspect, a friend, and a taxi driver.
According to Uasin Gishu County DCI officer Peter Kimulwa, the three suspects, whose names have not been released due to their young age, are a 17-year-old schoolboy, a 19-year-old man, and another male high school student.
They were arrested by detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in Eldoret South.
“The suspects are currently in our custody and are helping us with our investigations,” said Kimulwa. “We have also impounded a vehicle that we believe was used in the disposal of the body.”
The vehicle, a Toyota Fielder, was reportedly used to transport the metal box containing Chiloba’s body.
Preliminary reports indicate that Chiloba died of strangulation after his eyes were gouged out.
“Apart from the eyes being gouged out, there were no physical injuries on the body, suggesting that the victim might have died out of choking,” said Kimulwa.
The main suspect in the case, Jacktone Omondi, has reportedly confessed to committing the crime after discovering that Chiloba was in a relationship with another person.
“We are treating this as a suspected love triangle turned fatal,” said Kimulwa. “According to neighbors, Chiloba and Omondi were involved in a quarrel at their shared apartment in Eldoret before the murder took place.”
