In a village nestled within Kilgoris, Narok County, detectives are currently stationed, grappling with the aftermath of a harrowing incident. Two prison warders fell victim to a violent assault perpetrated by family members as they sought to reclaim a debt owed to them by a former superior.
The somber events transpired on the morning of Thursday, March 14th, in the serene environs of Tepesonik village, Transmara West, as revealed by law enforcement authorities.
Chief Inspector Patrick Mkhunyi Kuya and Sergeant Daniel Wairimu, both serving at Nairobi Medium Prison Industrial Area, embarked on a journey to the abode of a retired senior prisons officer, Pius Lemiso Shonimeu, in pursuit of unpaid dues.
Their arrival at Shonimeu’s residence, following an arduous overnight trek, quickly descended into chaos when the wife of the retired officer sounded the alarm, rousing the attention of local residents.
Responding swiftly, villagers armed themselves with rudimentary weapons, including bows and arrows, engaging the two officers in a fatal confrontation.
Upon inspection, Wairimu’s lifeless body bore the telltale signs of the villagers’ aggression, with three arrows piercing his knee, back, and right side of the chest. Meanwhile, Kuya suffered grievous wounds, marked by multiple lacerations on his head and body, as per police accounts.
A thorough search of the premises yielded damning evidence: a bow and seven arrows, a blood-soaked machete, and a fractured walking stick tainted with blood.
In the wake of the tragedy, authorities swiftly apprehended four family members implicated in the heinous act, slated to face charges of murder.
With investigations ongoing, law enforcement officials have petitioned for an extension to detain the suspects, as they diligently pursue leads in search of additional perpetrators.
The bodies of the fallen officers have been tenderly removed and preserved at St. Joseph Mission Hospital mortuary, awaiting postmortem examination and further forensic scrutiny.
Initial findings suggest that one of the deceased officers had extended a loan of undisclosed value to the retired officer, yet attempts to reclaim the debt proved fruitless, culminating tragically in the fatal encounter.
