University of Nairobi staff may have to wait a little bit longer to get their July salaries after the institution announced an unexpected “delay”.
In a notice dated August 3, the University has told the staff to remain patient as the matter is resolved.
“We are writing this letter to extend our heartfelt apologies to our esteemed staff for the delay in payment of July salaries,” reads the letter signed by the acting vice-chancellor Julius Ogeng’o.
Ogeng’o has not, however, stated the reason behind the delay noting “it was due to circumstances beyond our control”.
He said they are currently working expeditiously to have the salaries released at the earliest time.
Ogeng’o notice comes barely a day after he assumed office replacing Vice Chancellor Stephen Kiama who has proceeded on a six-month terminal leave.
The communication follows a similar decision to thousands of civil servants across the ministries over what officials termed as a technical hitch.
Internal memos issued in various departments have cited a technical problems affecting the processing of state payrolls.
The Ministry of Public Service said ongoing upgrades to the new payment system for government salaries encountered hitches.
“This is to inform all the officers that the salary for the month of July 2023 will delay due to the migration of the old manual Integrated Personnel and Payroll Database (IPPD) system to the new online unified human resource (UHR) system,” A memo issued at the State Department of Correctional Service dated July 25 reads.
Another memo at the gender department indicated the same.
