Users of Safaricom’s overdraft services Fuliza on Wednesday, March 8 reported that it had crashed.
Reports of its crash started streaming some minutes past 3pm on social media.
Tens of users, thereafter, took to the social media platform to report similar problems with the overdraft service.
In replies from Safaricom to those who inquired if there was something wrong, the telco acknowledged that its Fuliza M-pesa service was disrupted due to a system glitch.
The outage affected customers who attempted to use the service to pay bills, buy goods, or send money.
Customers who attempted to use the service received an error message, with some complaining about their limit reductions and others completely unable to access the service.
Safaricom, on the other hand, assured customers that it is working hard to restore normal services as soon as possible.
Other M-pesa services, such as normal calls, data, SMS, and money transfers, according to Safaricom, were not affected by the service disruption and remained available to customers.
Fuliza overdraft facility was launched on January 5, 2019, in partnership with Commercial Bank of Africa (now merged into NCBA) and KCB Group.
The small credit facility has emerged as a leading mobile loan, disbursing Sh1.5 billion daily.
Safaricom was yet to issue a statement on the cause of interruption of services by the time of publishing this story.
